4 Ideas To Help You Customize Your Child's Wardrobe

Self-expression is an important part of your child's development. It's a way for your child to figure out their preferences, which will help them grow into confident adults. You can encourage your child's self-expression by helping them to customize their wardrobe. Here are four ideas that can help you get started:

1. Go bargain hunting

Check your local thrift store for great deals. Give your child ten dollars and allow them to pick out whatever they'd like from the store. Since thrift stores sell secondhand clothing for inexpensive prices, that money will go a long way. Some people are put off by the idea of used clothes, but secondhand clothes are usually in very good condition. Thrift stores also tend to have a more eclectic mix of clothing than larger chain stores, so your child will have a greater selection to choose from.

2. Personalize

Encourage your child to express themselves artistically by personalizing their clothing. You can buy nontoxic fabric paint and allow your child to paint a few t-shirts. The only limit is what their imagination can dream up. Applique embroidery is another neat way to personalize clothing. Your child can have a pair of custom jeans decorated with fun patches. Let your child pick out applique patches to sew onto the jeans. Just make sure to supervise your child's use of sewing equipment!

3. Accessorize

Accessories are an easy way to add flair to any wardrobe. The right jewelry change the look of an outfit from casual to classy. Your daughter might enjoy bohemian-inspired jewelry, or she might want to look like a fairy princess. Be careful not to impose your own taste on your child. Instead, let them explore their own interests and aesthetic preferences. Accessorizing isn't just for girls. Even boys can accessorize with hats, belts, and shoes.

4. Get inspired

Expose your child to a wide variety of culture. By broadening your child's horizons, you can help them learn what they enjoy. Self-expression doesn't happen in a vacuum. Borrow history books from the library to show your child what people wore throughout history. Visit museums and travel to see what people wear in other parts of the world. These things will give your child new ideas that they can incorporate into their own wardrobe.

When you're wearing clothes you enjoy, you feel confident and happy. Help your children build confidence by encouraging them to express themselves through their clothing choices.
